What to Expect After Oral Surgery
Most oral surgery procedures are performed under local anesthesia and are less uncomfortable than patients expect. After surgery, you will receive detailed aftercare instructions. Mild swelling and discomfort are normal for 24 to 48 hours and are manageable with over-the-counter pain medication. Most patients return to normal activities within 2 to 3 days. Call us straight away if bleeding continues beyond 24 hours, swelling gets worse after the third day, you develop a fever, or numbness of the lip or tongue does not fade.
For dental implants specifically, the healing period (osseointegration) takes 3 to 6 months, during which a temporary restoration protects the site. Our team monitors healing closely, and Dr. Rita places the permanent crown or bridge once the implant has fully integrated with the bone.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is typically painless. Most patients report the experience is more comfortable than they expected. Post-operative discomfort is mild and short-lived.
Do wisdom teeth always need to be removed?
No. Removal is recommended only when wisdom teeth are impacted, causing pain, crowding other teeth, or are difficult to clean. If they are correctly positioned and maintainable, they can stay.
