Root canal treatment in Lebanon saves a tooth whose inner pulp is inflamed or infected. At Lebanon Dental Studio, our endodontist, a root canal specialist, cleans, disinfects and seals the canals at C.Metric in Dbayeh. Dr. Rita Kanbar then rebuilds the tooth, usually with a crown on back teeth. Cost depends on the tooth, its canals and the final restoration.

Key Facts
- A root canal removes inflamed or infected pulp, disinfects the canals and seals them, so you keep your natural tooth.
- Root canals and retreatments at Lebanon Dental Studio are performed by our endodontist at C.Metric Beauty Dental Clinic in Dbayeh.
- Dr. Rita Kanbar examines the tooth with on-site digital X-rays, coordinates the plan and restores the tooth afterwards.
- Many root canals take one or two visits; infected or complex teeth can need more.
- Cost depends on the tooth, its number of canals, whether it is a retreatment, and the final restoration.
Signs You May Need a Root Canal
Pulp problems do not always hurt, so X-rays matter. Signs worth a check:
- A throbbing toothache, or pain when you bite down.
- Sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers after the drink is gone.
- A tooth turning grey or darker than its neighbours, often after a knock.
- A swollen, tender gum or a small pimple-like bump near the tooth.
If a tooth hurts when you chew but looks fine, our article on a tooth that hurts when biting down covers other causes to rule out.
Who Treats You: Our Endodontist and Dr. Rita
Dr. Rita Kanbar, a prosthodontist, sees you first. She examines the tooth, takes digital X-rays on site and tests how it responds to cold and pressure. If the pulp is the problem, she books you with our endodontist at the same clinic.
An endodontist is a dentist with specialist training in the inside of the tooth. Root canals are their daily work, including curved molar canals and teeth treated before, which is why our root canals go to a specialist. Once the canals are sealed, the tooth returns to Dr. Rita for its final restoration. See our endodontic treatment page for more.
What Happens During a Root Canal, Step by Step
- Numbing. A local anaesthetic, so you feel pressure but not pain.
- Isolation. A thin rubber sheet (a dental dam) keeps the tooth clean and dry.
- Access. A small opening through the biting surface reaches the pulp.
- Cleaning. Fine instruments remove the pulp and shape each canal while disinfecting solutions rinse out bacteria.
- Sealing. The canals are filled with gutta-percha, a rubber-like material.
- Temporary filling. The tooth is closed until Dr. Rita restores it.
Many root canals are done in one appointment of about 60 to 90 minutes. Others need two or more: with an active infection, complex molar anatomy, or medication placed in the canals between sessions. Our endodontist decides on the day, so we do not promise a single visit in advance.
Pain, Recovery and When to Call Us
With a proper local anaesthetic, most patients compare the treatment to a long filling, and the American Association of Endodontists says a root canal is no more painful than routine dental work. Expect numbness for a few hours and a tooth that is tender to bite on for a few days. Until the final restoration is in, chew on the other side. Contact us if you notice:
- Swelling that appears or grows after treatment.
- Pain that gets worse after the first few days instead of easing.
- A temporary filling that falls out.
Root Canal Retreatment
Occasionally a treated tooth becomes painful or infected again, months or years later. Common causes are a missed canal, a delayed or leaking crown, new decay or a crack. Retreatment gives the tooth a second chance: our endodontist reopens it, removes the old filling material, looks for missed canals, then cleans and reseals. It takes longer than a first treatment, and the old crown often has to be replaced. If a crack runs down the root, we will say so plainly and discuss extraction instead.
Root Canal vs Extraction and an Implant
Pulling a tooth looks quicker but rarely stays simple. An open gap lets neighbouring teeth drift, and replacing the tooth later means an implant or a bridge, which takes longer and usually costs more.
| Option | What it involves | Timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Root canal and crown | Natural tooth kept and protected | Endodontist visit or visits, then crown visits with Dr. Rita |
| Extraction and implant | Implant placed by our oral surgeon, crown by Dr. Rita | 3 to 6 months of healing before the final crown |
| Extraction and bridge | Neighbouring teeth trimmed to hold a bridge | About one to two weeks |
| Extraction only | Gap left open | One visit, then drifting teeth over time |
Extraction is the right call when the root is cracked or too little tooth remains. Our guide to bridges versus implants covers replacement options.
Why a Crown Usually Follows on Back Teeth
A molar or premolar that needs a root canal has usually lost structure to decay, old fillings and the access opening. Back teeth take heavy chewing forces, and a root-filled back tooth without full coverage is more likely to split, often beyond repair.
So Dr. Rita usually recommends a crown on back teeth. She rebuilds the core, with a post if little tooth remains, then fits an E.max or zirconia crown. Front teeth that keep most of their structure can sometimes take a bonded filling instead. Our page on dental crowns in Lebanon covers materials and visits. Do not leave a temporary filling in place for months: the AAE lists a delayed crown among the reasons root canals fail.
What Shapes the Cost of a Root Canal in Lebanon
Lebanon Dental Studio does not publish fees, in line with Lebanese rules on medical advertising. These are the factors that move the cost:
- Which tooth. Front teeth usually have one canal, molars three or four, often narrow or curved. More canals mean more time.
- First treatment or retreatment. Removing old material and finding missed canals is more involved.
- Infection. An abscess can mean medication between sessions and an extra visit.
- The final restoration. The crown on a back tooth, plus a post and core if needed, is planned alongside but is a separate item.
- Imaging. Digital X-rays are taken on site; a complex case occasionally needs 3D imaging, arranged at a partner imaging centre.
Root canal treatment in Lebanon typically costs much less than in Western Europe, North America or the Gulf. Our overview of dental treatment costs in Lebanon explains how we quote; if you live abroad, see our guide to planning dental treatment from abroad.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it better to save the tooth with a root canal or pull it out?
Where the tooth can be restored, saving it is usually the better choice. Your own root preserves the bone around it, chews naturally and avoids a gap that lets neighbouring teeth shift. Extraction followed by an implant or bridge takes longer and usually costs more. Extraction is right when the root is cracked or too little tooth remains.
How long does a tooth last after a root canal?
With a well-sealed root canal, a crown on back teeth and good daily care, a treated tooth can last for many years, often for life. Delayed or leaking restorations, new decay and cracks from grinding shorten its life, so regular checkups with Dr. Rita matter.
Where can I find an endodontist near me in the Beirut area?
Our endodontist sees patients at C.Metric Beauty Dental Clinic, 6th Floor, Dbayeh 76 Tower, Dbayeh Internal Road, near ABC Dbayeh. It is one minute from the Metn Highway and a short drive from Beirut, Jal el Dib, Antelias, Jounieh and Kaslik. Directions are on our Dbayeh clinic page.
Can I have a root canal during a short visit to Lebanon?
Often, yes. Send your X-ray or a photo on WhatsApp before you travel so Dr. Rita can review it. Most root canals take one or two visits, and the crown follows once the tooth has settled. Book the root canal early in your stay so the crown is finished before you fly. A complex retreatment may need a longer stay.
How to Get a Personal Estimate

Dr. Rita replies personally, usually within the hour during clinic hours (Monday to Friday 10:30 to 19:00, Saturday 10:30 to 13:30), and explains what the estimate depends on. The final quote is confirmed after an in-person exam at C.Metric in Dbayeh. We speak English, French and Arabic.
